What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?

Modern car keys come with unique chips that are unique to each vehicle, in contrast to older keys. This prevents thieves from just using the key to start the car.

Transponder Codes

When a transponder is interrogated, it sends an encoded signal that is accompanied by the four-digit code. This signal, known as a SQUAWK Code is used to identify aircraft on radar screens. It can also be used to send specific messages to air traffic control in the event of an emergency or to alert air traffic controllers to changing weather conditions.
